What Browsers Do You Support? We support all browsers, however, making a Web site that is compatible with all browsers is a time consuming task. at the minimum we recommend having a Web site that is compatible with Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0 and Mozilla's Firefox 2.0. Another issue to take into considerations is the user's Operating System (OS). While everyone has heard of Apple computers and some people use them for personal computers we recommend ensuring your Web site be developed primarily for Windows XP operating Systems. For more information on what browsers and operating systems are in use view these charts.
Marketing? Now that you have registered your domain name, paid for your Web space on our server, and we have designed your Web Site. It is now time to take your Web site to market. We offer many means of advertising to suit any project and any budget. Once your site has been built we will discuss your options. Remember, people will not magically find your site.
However, your Intrepid Network Web Site has been fully optimized for "searchability" on the Internet with the latest in state-of-the-art programming techniques. The search engine submission process is one we take seriously; however, that's only the first step. We strongly recommend that you advertise your Web Site address on all of your marketing materials, including, but not limited to the following: * Business Cards * Postcards * T-Shirts * Stationery * Newspaper Ads * Magazine Ads * Farm Letters * Your Voice Mail and Pager * Sign Riders * Open House Notices, etc.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)? SEO is the active practice of optimizing a web site by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic the site receives from search engines. Firms that practice SEO can vary; some have a highly specialized focus, while others take a more broad and general approach. Optimizing a web site for search engines can require looking at so many unique elements that many practitioners of SEO (SEOs) consider themselves to be in the broad field of website optimization (since so many of those elements intertwine). This guide is designed to describe all areas of SEO - from discovery of the terms and phrases that will generate traffic, to making a site search engine friendly, to building the links and marketing the unique value of the site/organization's offerings.
Why does my company/organization/website need SEO? The majority of web traffic is driven by the major commercial search engines - Yahoo!, MSN, Google & AskJeeves (although AOL gets nearly 10% of searches, their engine is powered by Google's results). If your site cannot be found by search engines or your content cannot be put into their databases, you miss out on the incredible opportunities available to websites provided via search - people who want what you have visiting your site. Whether your site provides content, services, products, or information, search engines are a primary method of navigation for almost all Internet users. Search queries, the words that users type into the search box which contain terms and phrases best suited to your site, carry extraordinary value. Experience has shown that search engine traffic can make (or break) an organization's success. Targeted visitors to a website can provide publicity, revenue, and exposure like no other. Investing in SEO, whether through time or finances, can have an exceptional rate of return.
Are you able to receive emails but not send? If you can receive mail but aren't able to send this means one thing:
Your internet provider is blocking you from using anyone's outgoing mail servers but their own. Many major ISPs are blocking outgoing emails. The reason they do this is to prevent you from using their internet connection for spamming purposes. You will still be able to send emails, but only by using your ISP'S outgoing mail server. Every ISP's outgoing mail address is different, but for the most part they will be mail.yourispname.com For example, if you had hosting with AOL.com, their outgoing mail server would look like this: mail.aol.com If mail.yourisp.com does not work and you are still unable to send emails, you will need to call your internet service provider to find out what their outgoing mail server is.
We also have Exim running on port 26 for this very reason. A possible work around is to change your outgoing mail to port 26.
How do I configure Apple's iPhone to use your service?
By default Apple's iPhone enables TLS (encryption) for incoming and outgoing emails. A valid TLS certificate is only available on a dedicated server/VPS.
1. Enter Mail on the iPhone
2. Select Other from the list of mail provider options
3. Enter all the Account specifics:
Address: username@youdomain.com
Host Name: mail.yourdomainname.com
4. Click Save, and get the invalid certificate message
5. Click "CANCEL", an you get returned to the settings screen
6. Click "SAVE" again, it says, "You may not be able to receive email..."
7. Click OK
8. Now you can go back into the settings, the ADVANCED button now shows up at the bottom of the mail screen.
9. Now you can go into the advanced tab and turn OFF SSL for both sending and receiving mail.
I am unable to send email to yahoo or the emails to yahoo are being delayed?
This is a new feature of yahoo mail. It is using what is called Grey Listing to fight spam. For more details, you can read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greylisting
What happens is that whenever a new message is sent to yahoo, it replies with "try again later" message. e.g. here is a test smtp connection to one of the yahoo's mx:
# telnet 66.196.97.250 25
Trying 66.196.97.250...
Connected to 66.196.97.250.
Escape character is '^]'.
421 Message from (a.b.c.d) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-06.html
Connection closed by foreign host.
Now as you can see, yahoo did not even give us (the ip of a.b.c.d) a chance to start the smtp session. What it will do is wait for us to try again later. Our mail servers (or yours on your vps/dedicated server) will try again later and if yahoo likes the delay long enough, it will let the server communicate further and deliver the email.
To avoid such delays and problems with yahoo mail, you are encouraged NOT TO FORWARD emails to yahoo or any other ISP. Please check below
If you are on one of our shared / reseller server, then this usually means that other users or you have setup email forwarding to AOL and causing a block at AOL. This is because when an email arrives at your domain, and if you have setup email forwarding to any of the following ISPs email addresses:
aol.com
att.net
bigpond.net.au
comcast.net
mac.com
videotron.ca
worldnet.att.net
the email will be forwarded to the ISP email address as it is, which can include spam as well.
What happens next is that either the ISP's mail filters or the recipient marks that email as spam, which results in your hosting server being considered as source of that spam.
Here is an example of this issue posted on AOL:
http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421rlynw.html
[ When an AOL member clicks "this is spam" for a piece of email sent from one of your IPs, this is considered a "complaint". ]
This makes you the spammer and your server gets blocked at any of those ISPs. All these ISPs are known to use incoming filters and do not work well with email forwarding.
Solution:
1. If you have a dedicated server or vps, all users on your server should remove any forwarding to such ISPs and create proper email accounts (pop3/imap/webmail).
2. If you are victim of the above problem and are using one of our shared hosting account, you can request support to get your account moved to a different server that is not being blocked by AOL or wait for AOL to unblock your current server, which happens automatically.
3. If you are using a forwarder like this, please remove it.
4. If you are trying to send email to yourself at AOL, we recommend that you follow solution #1 and create proper email account from your control panel.
What is the correct URL to login to webmail?
You can either login via your control panel, or by visiting http://yourdomain.com/webmail/ . You can also use: http://yourdomain.com:2095
The username would be the FULL e-mail address for that account, and the password would be the password established for that e-mail account.
Can no longer send email (Only applies if your ISP is Verizon)
If you call Verizon you will get one of a few fixes for this problem. We have found simply changing port 25 to port 26 solves this issue. Also, as of March 27th, 2010 Verizon is having its customers create a Verizon email account in order to use the solutions provided on their Web site, which is, to change your SMTP Outgoing Email from mail.yourdomain.com to outgoing.verizon.net.
